Gallant Yorkshire Men Receive Humane Society Awards for Heroic Rescue in Limerick

The Royal Humane Society has awarded bronze medals to two brave Yorkshiremen, Staff-sergeant Bee and Lance-corporal Mogson of the 1st Battalion Yorkshire Light Infantry, for their courageous actions in Limerick on July 28. Both men were on duty assisting in extinguishing a fire at the docks when a woman fell into the dock basin. They immediately jumped in to save her and brought her to the wall, where a hose pipe and piece of rope were lowered to them. However, the hose pipe broke, and all three fell back into the 17ft deep water. Despite this setback, the brave soldiers kept the now unconscious woman afloat until a boat arrived to rescue all three.
