Technical Education Committee Approves Annual Payment for Limerick’s Pery Square School

The Technical Education Committee for the city discussed the payment of an annual sum to Pery Square School in Limerick, Ireland. The school, under the charge of the Sisters of Mercy, had spent £1,000 on technical instruction, not including the building or site costs. The proposal to pay an additional £100 a year for the use of the school and the services of two nuns engaged there all day was met with disfavor by the Department of Technical Education, but was nevertheless supported and passed by the committee. It was argued that the day technical school should be instructed under religious influences and that the character of children should be formed on sound religious and moral lines.
