The Counter Limerick Shamrock League is leading a systematic organization for the collection of shamrock in Ireland and its distribution throughout the United Kingdom for St. Patrick’s Day (March 17th). This initiative is being carried out to support the wives and families of servicemen in connection with the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Families Association. The distribution has also helped the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Help Society in the past, which aims to support the disabled, sick, and injured soldiers after their return home.
This year, the league hopes to make this fund a permanent memorial dedicated to those who fell defending the empire in South Africa. Queen Alexandra has already shown her support by placing a large order as she intends to present bunches of shamrocks to every member of the military.
As the Limerick Shamrock League continues to garner support for its cause, locals and military members alike can anticipate a memorable St. Patrick’s Day, honouring their dedication and service to their country.
