Limerick Journalists Association Repudiates Controversial Advertisement

Limerick, Ireland – In a fully attended adjourned meeting of the Limerick Journalists’ Association, held on Saturday evening and presided over by the chairman, a discussion arose concerning a recent advertisement published in the Limerick Chronicle for an attendant position.

During the meeting, Mr George MacDonagh, Editor of the Limerick Leader, proposed a resolution, seconded by Mr J. M. O’Connell of The Munster News. The resolution was unanimously adopted by the association, and it read as follows: “That the advertisement which appeared in the Limerick Chronicle for an attendant was inserted without the knowledge or sanction of the general body of members, and that we disclaim the suggestion contained in it that a police pensioner or ex-military man would be preferred for the position.”

The resolution was aimed at distancing the Limerick Journalists’ Association from the controversial advertisement and clarifying that it did not represent the views or preferences of the association’s members.

The incident highlights the importance of ensuring transparency and collective decision-making within professional organizations, especially when it comes to public representation and recruitment advertisements.
