A delightful event was held at the Royal Arms Hotel in Omagh, where Mr Daniel Lysaght, the esteemed editor of the Ulster Herald, was honoured with a farewell supper before his departure for Newry. He was set to take up the editorship of the Frontier Sentinel, a new publication owned by the same company as the Herald.
The gathering was notably large and influential, and the proceedings were presided over by Mr Michael Lynch, the esteemed chairman of the Urban Council. The toast to Mr Lysaght was proposed by Mr F. J. O’Connor, a solicitor, who praised the departing editor for earning the respect and admiration of all those he had interacted with during his time in Omagh.
Further toasts were offered, including “The Town and Trade of Omagh,” “The Clergy,” “The Professions,” and “The Press.” These were responded to by various attendees, including Mr P. J. Ginnane, a former resident of Limerick.
Throughout the evening, the gathering enjoyed the musical talents of Rev. J. J. M’Glade, Dr O’Doherty, George Murnaghan (a solicitor), and several local amateurs who treated the attendees to delightful songs.
It’s worth mentioning that Mr Lysaght hails from the Ballingarry district in County Limerick, where his family enjoys a well-established reputation. Prior to his time in Omagh, Mr Lysaght had been associated with the London Press for several years.
The farewell supper was a memorable and joyous occasion, celebrating Mr Lysaght’s contributions to journalism and wishing him success in his new editorial role with the Frontier Sentinel.
