Eventful Evening at Fox’s Hotel as Mayor of Limerick Honored by Oddfellows

Last evening, an interesting and memorable event unfolded at Fox’s Hotel, where the Mayor of Limerick, Alderman M. Joyce, MP.., received a special tribute from the Independent Order of Oddfellows. In recognition of his dedicated membership of over 30 years in the Order, the Mayor was presented with a prestigious gold medal and a beautifully illuminated address.

Mr Michael Hayes, the presiding officer, led the proceedings at a large gathering of Oddfellows, all dressed in their full regalia, adorned with aprons and sashes. The presentation ceremony was a grand affair, with the address meticulously crafted as a true work of art, thanks to the efforts of Mr Henry O’Shea, while Mr John Ryan, a skilled guilder, provided an exquisite frame for the illuminated address.

During the event, Mr M. O’H. Lalwor, the secretary, had the honour of reading the address, which conveyed the deep gratitude and appreciation of the Mayor’s longtime comrades in the Order. They celebrated his unanimous selection as the Mayor and Parliamentary representative of the city. In their heartfelt message, they expressed hope that he would witness the realization of their long-cherished desire for Home Rule.

The gold medal itself bore the inscription: “Presented June 1905, from Shannon Lodge, IOOF, to Right Worshipful Alderman Joyce, MP.., Mayor of Limerick, as a token of their esteem.”

Responding to the gesture, the Mayor delivered a gracious speech, expressing his sincere gratitude for the honour bestowed upon him by the Oddfellows. The atmosphere of the evening was warm and convivial as the attendees spent time together, enjoying each other’s company and engaging in lively discussions.

As the event concluded, it left a lasting impression on those present, reinforcing the spirit of camaraderie and appreciation within the Independent Order of Oddfellows. The Mayor’s recognition by this esteemed organization added a meaningful layer to his public service and underscored the significance of community bonds in the pursuit of shared goals.
