Limerick Women’s Franchise League Celebrates Successful First Year

In a remarkable display of dedication and advocacy, the Munster Women’s Franchise League’s Limerick branch marked its first year with a resounding success, as detailed in the recently released First Annual Report. Since its formation on January 30th, 19,3, the branch has actively engaged in various initiatives and meetings, contributing significantly to the women’s empowerment movement in the region.

The inaugural meeting, held on January 30th, 19,3, featured compelling addresses by Mrs. Cowan and Miss Day, setting the tone for a year of impactful activities. The report highlights a series of meetings held throughout the year, including notable events such as the Women’s Meeting on April 15th, where Miss Abadan passionately discussed the issue of White Slave Traffic. Other significant gatherings included an At-Home meeting on June 17th and a Public Meeting on October 11th, featuring prominent speakers like Mrs. Colby and Canon Langbridge.

One of the central focuses of the Limerick branch was to collect information on women’s employment in the area. This initiative was inspired by Miss Morony’s speech at the Women’s Suffrage Conference in December, emphasizing the branch’s commitment to addressing pertinent issues faced by women in the community. Notably, Mrs. O’Connor, Mrs. Gibson, and Miss Morony represented the Limerick branch at the conference, contributing to a broader conversation on women’s rights.

Acknowledging the support of local media, the committee expressed gratitude to the “Limerick Chronicle,” “Munster News,” and “Limerick Echo” for their fair-minded and courteous coverage of the league’s activities. The positive media representation undoubtedly played a crucial role in raising awareness and garnering support for the cause.

The report reveals that the Limerick branch’s membership has grown steadily, reaching an impressive count of 71 members. Financially, the league has fared well, with a total income of £23 0s 0d and expenditures amounting to £13 13s 0d. This prudent financial management has resulted in a substantial balance in hand, allowing the league to continue its advocacy and outreach efforts in the coming year.

Looking ahead, the Limerick branch plans to increase the minimum subscription to 1s 6d, a decision driven by the confidence that interest in their work is expanding and deepening within the community. The report reflects the committee’s satisfaction with the growing understanding and support for their movement, indicating a positive trajectory for the Munster Women’s Franchise League in Limerick.

As the league continues to make strides in advocating for women’s rights and equality, the Limerick branch’s commitment to fostering change and creating awareness remains unwavering. With a successful first year behind them, the league stands poised to further amplify its impact and bring about positive transformations for women in the region.
