Limerick City’s Tribute to Irish Party Leadership

In a fervent display of support and gratitude, the Limerick City Branch of the United Irish League convened on Wednesday, under the auspices of Mr Stephen O’Mara, High Sheriff, to pay homage to the Irish Party and its unwavering commitment to Irish national interests.

The meeting, presided over by Mr O’Mara, saw notable figures such as Mayor Councillor Quinn, J.P., Mr C. Johnston, S.C., Mr John Dundon, and Mr J. Gould, coming together to express their appreciation for the Irish Party’s recent accomplishments and continued advocacy.

Chief among the accolades was a motion, proposed by Mr Ralph Nash, solicitor, and seconded by Mr T. M. Ryan, V.S., expressing gratitude for the Irish Party’s successful opposition to the Compulsory Service Bill, which resulted in Ireland’s exemption from conscription. The motion also commended the Irish Party’s efforts in safeguarding Irish grants and national interests, acknowledging the pivotal role played by Mr Redmond and his colleagues.

In his address to the assembly, Mayor Quinn highlighted the integral role played by the Irish Party in shaping Ireland’s current political landscape, attributing the country’s present position to the leadership of Mr Redmond and the tireless efforts of the Irish Party.

Alderman Michael Joyce, MP.., echoed these sentiments, recalling the resolute stance taken by the Irish Party against conscription and the unwavering support they received from figures such as Mr John Dillon. He emphasized the importance of Mr Redmond’s leadership, particularly during moments of crisis, and expressed confidence in the Party’s ability to continue representing Irish interests effectively.

Sir Walter Nugent, MP.., added his voice to the chorus of praise, citing the Irish Party’s contributions to various national causes, including their support for recruiting efforts during the war. He underscored the importance of unity and solidarity in the face of adversity, reaffirming his belief in Ireland’s ability to overcome challenges and contribute positively to its own history.

The meeting concluded with a unanimous show of support for the Irish Party and its leadership, with attendees expressing confidence in their ability to navigate Ireland through the challenges ahead.
