A shocking motor accident resulting in a fatality occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. yesterday on Pembroke Road, Dublin. The incident tragically claimed the life of Miss Marion Waters, a 20-year-old resident of 20 Northumberland Road and a relative of Mr Robert W.C. Waters, a prominent figure in the Irish turf industry.
According to reports, Miss Waters, accompanied by Mr T.A. Browning of County Limerick, who is currently staying at the Ivanhoe Hotel on Harcourt Street, was travelling in a taxi-cab towards the bridge. At the junction of Pendle Road and Lansdowne Road, the steering wheel of the vehicle appeared to malfunction, causing a collision with a tramcar travelling towards the city.
The impact of the collision left Miss Waters unconscious and suffering severe head injuries, necessitating her immediate transportation to the City of Dublin Hospital on Baggot Street via the Pembroke Ambulance. Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries approximately two hours after the accident.
The chauffeur of the taxi-cab, identified as John Hickie and residing at 109 Quinn Street, sustained injuries from broken glass that partially severed his ear. Mr Browning, however, miraculously escaped with only minor scratches on his face.
The collision resulted in damage to the side of the tramcar, while the taxi-cab was extensively damaged in the accident.
