In 1870, The Cemetery Would Have Looked Much As It Does Today. The Graveyard Is Enclosed By A High Stone Wall, With A Wrought-Iron Gate Leading To The Entrance. Inside, There Are Many Graves And Tombstones, Some Of Which Are Elaborate And Ornate, While Others Are Simple And Unadorned.
The graveyard is also home to several notable graves, including that of Bishop Butler, who served as the Bishop of Limerick in the 18th century. There are also several graves of soldiers who fought in various conflicts, including the American Civil War and World War I.
Today, St. Mary’s Cathedral Graveyard is still in use and is open to the public. It is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, and it remains an important part of Limerick’s history and heritage.
