Limerick, Thursday – The tranquil surroundings of Mount Shannon Estate near Limerick were marred by a sudden and tragic loss today, as Thomas Nevins, the estate’s recent proprietor, passed away due to natural causes. Initially, reports had suggested that a horse-related incident was the cause, but subsequent investigations have debunked this theory. Nevins, nearing his 70th year, was overseeing the estate’s harvesting operations on horseback when he suddenly grew weak, and despite swift medical attention, he succumbed within half an hour.
Thomas Nevins, a highly-regarded tramway and railway contractor, had amassed a substantial fortune in the United States before acquiring Mount Shannon three to four years ago. He had recently made headlines with his offer to undertake the street tramway contract for Limerick Corporation, a proposal that ultimately went unaccepted.
This sombre turn of events compounds the grief that has already enveloped the Nevins family, as it comes just a few months after the tragic passing of his daughter at Mount Shannon. These trying times have undoubtedly cast a pall over the family and their cherished estate.
