Limerick, Thursday – Thomas Nevins, who recently purchased the Mountshannon estate near Limerick, passed away suddenly this morning due to natural causes. Initially, it was reported that he had been kicked by a horse, but this was later proved incorrect. Nevins, almost 70 years old, had been out horseback riding, overseeing the harvesting operations on his estate when he fell weak and later died within half an hour despite medical assistance being sought.
Nevins was a tramway and railway contractor who amassed a significant fortune in the United States, and had been in possession of Mountshannon for three to four years. He had notably made an offer recently to take on the street tramway contract in Limerick for the Corporation, but the offer was not eventually accepted.
The sad news comes only a few months after the death of Nevins’ daughter at Mount Shannon, marking a difficult period for the family and the estate.
