The concert began with a spirited rendition of Gounod’s “By Babylon’s Wave” performed with great enthusiasm by the chorus. The opening piece showcased their harmonious voices, although a minor critique was noted regarding the phrasing. Mr D. Callaghan followed with a successful performance of Tosti’s “My Dreams,” captivating the audience with his rendition. Additionally, Madam Shaw delivered an outstanding understanding of “Consider the Lilies,” demonstrating her vocal prowess.

Lassen’s quartet, “The Spanish Gypsy Girl,” was beautifully rendered by Mr Blue, Mrs Frank Fitt, Miss McCormack, and Miss Hanrahan. The quartet’s harmonious voices resonated through the venue, leaving a lasting impression on the audience. Furthermore, the fine bass of Mr A. W. Trousdelfs received well-deserved applause for his performance in “The Windmill,” showcasing the remarkable talent possessed by all the soloists.

Miss Olive Cleeves’s piano rendition of Svendem’s “Romance on the Violin” was particularly noteworthy, displaying her skill and musicianship. Miss Irwin’s performance of “Arditi’s” familiar romance “Il Basio” from “La Sonnambula” was met with much admiration, as her sweet and expressive singing enchanted the crowd.

Two Irish melodies, “Kathleen Mavourneen” and “The Wine Cup is Circling,” elicited immense enthusiasm from the audience. The performers delivered these pieces with exquisite expression, capturing the essence of Celtic melancholy and the lighter side of the Irish spirit. The ever-beloved “Goodbye, Sweetheart” was met with thunderous applause, demonstrating its timeless appeal.

The concert concluded with the enchanting “Bridal Chorus” from “Lohengrin,” performed by the choir with exceptional skill, maintaining the high standard set by the opening chorus. The entire event flowed seamlessly under the capable direction of Mr C. Kendall Irwin, to whom immense credit is due for the superb interpretation of the music.
