Tragic Passing of Beloved Educator, Mr John G. Fogarty, Mourned by Limerick Community

Limerick — The local community of Limerick and its surrounding areas are deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Mr John G. Fogarty, a highly regarded National Teacher of this city. Mr Fogarty, who had been battling a prolonged illness, passed away late last night at his residence. Known for his amiable and compassionate nature, he was cherished by numerous friends and had an extensive network of acquaintances.

Recognized for his open-mindedness and unwavering commitment to principles, Mr Fogarty commanded immense respect from his fellow educators in Limerick city and county. He was elected as secretary and representative to the National Congress of Teachers on multiple occasions, a testament to the esteem in which he was held by his peers. His genuine concern for the welfare of teachers and the education sector earned him their admiration.

For many years, Mr Fogarty served as a teacher at St. Patrick’s National School, and more recently, at Leamy’s School. Additionally, he held the position of secretary at the Catholic Literary Institute for an extended period, where he made significant contributions. Literature held a special place in his heart, and his exceptional writing skills were evident in the insightful and thought-provoking articles he penned for publications such as Truth and various local newspapers in Limerick. His humility was such that he rarely, if ever, wrote under his own name, preferring to let his work speak for itself.

Last night, a sombre procession accompanied Mr Fogarty’s remains to St. Michael’s Parish Church, as a large gathering of friends paid their final respects. The funeral service is scheduled to take place tomorrow (Wednesday) at 3 o’clock, offering the community an opportunity to bid farewell to a remarkable individual who left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of those he encountered. Rest in peace, Mr John G. Fogarty.
