Attempted Suicide: Farmer’s Tragic Incident

A distressing incident occurred on Monday involving a farmer named John Moore, who resides near the Groody River. Moore attempted to take his own life by hanging himself in an outhouse. After returning from Limerick, he unharnessed his donkey and proceeded to place the reins over a rafter in the stable, fastening the rope around his neck. Standing on a low stool, he then kicked it away in an attempt to end his life. Fortunately, the drop was not sufficient to carry out his desperate act, and he was discovered sometime later with his feet barely touching the ground.

When found, Moore was unconscious and had to be swiftly cut down. Medical assistance was immediately sought, and Dr Shanahan attended to him. On Monday, he was transferred to the Workhouse Hospital under the doctor’s guidance. Temporary insanity is believed to be the motive behind Moore’s tragic decision. It is worth noting that his brother tragically drowned approximately twelve months ago.
