Rathkeale Gaelic League Establishes Irish Industrial Association

Rathkeale, – A meeting was held by the Bathkeale Gaelic League with the aim of establishing a branch of the Irish National Industrial Association. The gathering, held last Friday, was chaired by Very Reverend M. O’Dossern, PP, VF. Reverend J. Murphy, CC, President of the Gaelic Industrial Association, provided an explanation of the meeting’s objectives.

During the meeting, a letter from Mr M. J. McNamara, Honorary Secretary of the Limerick Industrial Association, was read. The letter detailed the working of the movement. In his address, the chairman emphasized the importance of promoting a branch of the Industrial Association and urged the general public to support and foster the Irish industry. He encouraged efforts to develop these industries and emphasized the significance of purchasing Irish goods instead of foreign-manufactured products of equal price and value.

Although the meeting was relatively small, and the chairman expressed regret for considering the noble purpose it served, it was decided that another meeting would be held at a later date. In the meantime, the following resolutions were proposed and unanimously adopted:

  1. Approval of the principles of the Irish Industrial Association and the promotion of the purchase of Irish goods over foreign manufacture.
  2. Requesting the shopkeepers in town to stock goods of Irish manufacture and displaying a tablet or poster notifying the public of the availability of “Irish goods sold here.”

The resolutions aimed to encourage local support for Irish industry and raise awareness among consumers about the importance of purchasing Irish-made products.
