Limerick, Thursday. Father Liston, the esteemed Parish Priest, brought forth a significant proposal during the County Technical Education Committee meeting. He advocated for measures to revive the fruit culture industry in the region. Not long ago, the orchards in various districts of County Limerick, particularly around Adare, gained renown for their exquisite apples and diverse array of fruits. However, due to various circumstances, the industry experienced a gradual decline. The land was repurposed for alternative uses, and the once-thriving orchards diminished.
Undoubtedly, the soil and climate in multiple areas of Limerick remain ideal for fruit cultivation. Father Liston’s proposal deserves serious consideration and experimentation. Lord Monteagle expressed strong support for the initiative, highlighting that the County Committee could pursue the matter during the upcoming annual scheme formulation. Once implemented, there is no doubt that the Department would extend its support and encouragement to this endeavour.
