Limerick Industrial Association Advances Local Industry

The regular weekly meeting of the Limerick Industrial Association took place at the Chamber of Commerce on the evening of Friday, the 14th instant. Alderman O’Mara chaired the meeting, during which several letters were read, including correspondence from the Chamber of Commerce and the Gaelic League. In response to a request from the Gaelic League, the association decided to contribute one pound towards the expenses of the St. Patrick’s Day Demonstration.

A letter from the Irish Industries Association, Limerick Branch, was also shared. The letter expressed congratulations to the Limerick Industrial Association for the success of the exhibition held the previous July and conveyed good wishes for its continued prosperity. The resolution had been passed unanimously during a meeting of the Irish Industries Association.

The sub-committee was scheduled to convene on Monday evening at 8 o’clock to finalize arrangements regarding the prospectus and articles of association. It was determined that the usual weekly meeting, instead of taking place on Friday evening, would be held on Wednesday next at 8 o’clock. Father Cregan was invited to attend and provide information on the shirt industry at St. Ita’s House. Some members had encountered difficulties in acquiring shirts within the city, and a newly established factory in a nearby town struggled to meet the demands of local shopkeepers. These shopkeepers, driven by patriotic motives, pledged to support local industry.

All members were urged to attend the meeting on Wednesday evening to hear about the dedicated efforts of Father Cregan in facilitating employment opportunities for the city’s girls. In line with the chairman’s suggestion, several members volunteered to prepare papers to be presented at the weekly meetings. Additionally, it was agreed to initiate the formation of a Ladies’ Section within the association.

Subscriptions were now due, and the affiliated societies were encouraged to promptly appoint their delegates. The Limerick Industrial Association remains committed to promoting and advancing local industry, fostering collabouration among its members, and supporting the city’s economic growth.
