Limerick Bootmakers Invited to Supply Boots for Mayor’s Staff

The Limerick Improvement Committee has announced its call for tenders from local bootmakers for the production and supply of four pairs of boots to be used by the Mayor’s Staff. The committee, responsible for enhancing the city’s infrastructure and services, aims to support local businesses and promote the use of Limerick Made Leather in the production of the boots.

The call for tenders was officially announced by Mr W.M. Nolan, the Town Clerk, who stated that interested bootmakers should submit their tenders before 4 o’clock on November 30th. The tenders should be endorsed with the label “Tender for Boots.” While the committee seeks competitive prices, it reserves the right to accept or reject any tender, even the lowest one.

The initiative aims to foster collabouration between the city council and local bootmakers, highlighting the importance of promoting homegrown industries and supporting the Limerick economy. By sourcing materials locally and engaging with skilled artisans, the committee intends to contribute to the growth of the bootmaking sector within the city.

Limerick has a rich tradition of craftsmanship, including the art of bootmaking, which has been passed down through generations. However, concerns have been raised regarding the outsourcing of shopfitting work that was previously carried out by local workers. Recognizing the value of keeping such work within the city, the committee discussed the matter during the meeting and requested the secretary to communicate with various shopkeepers, encouraging them to support local artisans.

The next meeting of the Limerick Industrial Association is scheduled for Thursday, December 1st, to avoid any clash with the upcoming concert for Barrington’s Hospital. At the meeting, Mr Lynch’s paper will be presented, and members are encouraged to invite their friends to attend.

The call for tenders represents an opportunity for Limerick’s talented bootmakers to showcase their skills and contribute to the mayoral staff’s attire. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting local industries, preserving traditional craftsmanship, and promoting the use of Limerick Made Leather.

As the deadline for tenders approaches, bootmakers across Limerick eagerly prepare their proposals, hoping to secure the prestigious opportunity to supply boots for the Mayor’s Staff, an honour that would not only bolster their reputation but also celebrate the city’s proud heritage of skilled artisans.

The Limerick Improvement Committee remains committed to initiatives that strengthen the local economy, encourage collabouration between businesses and the city council, and preserve the unique character and craftsmanship of Limerick.
