In an astonishing turn of events, a young woman by the name of Mary Anne Neiland has made a remarkable statement to Head Constable Webster, who is in charge of the John Street station. During a recent session at the Limerick Petty Sessions, she took legal action against her father, Michael Neiland, and successfully secured his conviction on charges of assault. However, what follows is a yet more distressing revelation. After the trial concluded, Mary Anne Neiland disclosed to Head Constable Webster that her father, Michael Neiland, had allegedly taken the life of one of his own children, an infant merely six or seven months old, by violently dashing the innocent soul against a wall. This harrowing incident is said to have transpired approximately five years ago, during a period when Neiland, currently serving a fourteen-day prison sentence, resided with his family in an antiquated dwelling near Ennis. Head Constable Webster is presently conducting a thorough investigation into the fresh accusations brought forth by the young woman against her father.
