
The Most Rev. Dr O’Dwyer, Bishop of Limerick, visited St. Michael’s Temperance Society Rooms on a recent Sunday and addressed the members. The Mayor of Limerick, Alderman Joyce, and other prominent figures accompanied him. His Lordship expressed his pleasure and pride in being present and commended Alderman Joyce for his rise in position due to his principles and loyalty to the Society.
The Bishop recognized the Society’s role as a center of temperance in the city and praised its educational efforts, including readings and a dramatic class. He congratulated the Society on Alderman Joyce’s accomplishments, attributing them to his adherence to temperance principles.
Alderman Joyce thanked the Bishop for his visit and highlighted his active involvement in defending the faith, morals, and education of the people. He praised the Bishop’s charitable work in aiding the working class and recalled the strong foundation laid by the Society’s dramatic class for his own success.
Father John Lee and Mr Daniel Hannan also expressed their gratitude for the Bishop’s visit, and Mr Hannan proclaimed the members’ loyalty to the Bishop and their willingness to guard him if needed. The need for a new hall for the Society was also emphasized during the event.
