
The City Commission of the Limerick Spring Assizes commenced at the City Courthouse on Monday at eleven o’clock, with the esteemed Lord Chief Justice, Lord O’Brien of Kilfenora, presiding over the proceedings. Accompanying him was Mr James Flynn, serving as the City High Sheriff.
The Grand Jury for the City Commission was sworn in, with Mr Thomas Ferguson acting as the foreman. Among the other members were James F Barry, 3P; Michael Cahill, SF; Thomas Dowling, JP; Thomas Hassett; William Holliday; EH P Hosford; Andrew Murray; Michael McGrath; William F McNamara; Daniel McNiece (Alderman); William M Nolan; Thomas O’Brien; Edward O’Connell; Patrick O’Mealy, BC; William G Peacocke, BC; Malcolm D Shaw; BF Sheeby; W.W. Slade; and James G Wilkinson.
Addressing the Grand Jury, His Lordship conveyed a concise message, informing them that there was only one case for their consideration, which posed no legal complexities. With this straightforward instruction, the Grand Jury retired to deliberate on the case at hand. Subsequently, the jury rendered a verdict of not guilty for the accused individual.
