A potentially tragic accident was narrowly averted at the Ferry Carrig railway bridge around 11 o’clock on Wednesday morning. Mr Roche, formerly a bank teller in the National Bank at Wexford and currently serving as the secretary of the Limerick County Council, was driving his motor car towards Ferry Carrig with his wife as a passenger.
As they approached the curve under the bridge, their motor car collided with a horse and car owned by Hon Mrs. Deane-Morgan. The exact speed of the motor car at the time of the collision is not yet known, but the impact was severe. The horse sustained serious injuries to its legs and was temporarily disabled, and one of the car’s fenders was smashed. The motor car itself also suffered damage, and Mrs. Roche experienced significant shock from the incident. The man in charge of the horse and car, named Kavanagh, also sustained minor injuries.
Thankfully, there was no loss of life in the accident, but it serves as a reminder of the potential dangers involved in motor travel and the importance of exercising caution on the roads.
