Resolution of Limerick and Clare Farmers’ Club

During the meeting of the Limerick and Clare Farmers’ Club on Saturday, chaired by Mrs. Patrick Floucane, the following resolution was adopted with only one dissenting voice:

“Resolved – That we, the members of the Limerick and Clare Farmers’ Club, express our regret over the Nationalists of Cork City’s decision to elect a Member of Parliament who refuses to sign the simple pledge to ‘sit, act, and vote with the Irish Parliamentary Party.’ We believe such actions may jeopardize the unity of the admirable group of men under the leadership of Mr Redmond. We sincerely hope that constituencies across the country will remain vigilant and cautious when considering candidates for Parliamentary honours. It is essential to compel any candidate to sign the party pledge before being allowed to address the constituents of any division.”

The resolution reflects the club’s concern over the potential consequences of electing a candidate who does not commit to aligning with the Irish Parliamentary Party’s agenda. They believe that maintaining unity and coherence within the party is crucial for effective governance and representation. The resolution serves as an appeal to all constituencies to exercise due diligence in evaluating potential candidates’ commitment to the party’s principles before extending their support.
