OBITUARY: MR. PATRICK McCORMACK, BALLYVALODE, OOLA

The passing of Mr Patrick McCormack, a highly esteemed and popular gentleman, came as a surprise to his many friends and relatives. He breathed his last at his residence in Ballyvalode, Oola, on the 9th of this month, at the relatively young age of 53. Though he had been in declining health for some time, his sudden departure was not anticipated.

Mr McCormack was an active and respected member of the Tipperary No. 2 District Council and the Tipperary Board of Guardians since the implementation of the Local Government Act. Despite his quiet and unassuming nature, he had won the affection and respect of not only his colleagues on the Tipperary Board but also the labourers of Oola and Pallasgreen, who held him in high regard. He was a steadfast supporter of the working classes and always championed their cause, especially during the fight for direct labour.

Survived by his widow and a large family, Mr McCormack’s funeral on the 11th was a testament to the impact he had made on his community. It was without a doubt the largest gathering ever seen in the area, with an impressive procession of around 200 cars of all kinds participating.

The funeral began with the removal of the remains to the parish church at Oola, where a touching Office and High Mass were celebrated for the repose of his soul. Numerous clergymen officiated, with a choir of dedicated individuals singing in his honour.

Chief mourners included his grieving widow, sons Denis, James, Patrick, Jono, Michael, and Jerome, and daughters Mary, Annie, and Angela. Many brothers-in-law, cousins, and friends were also present to pay their respects.

Representatives from the Tipperary Board of Guardians and numerous public figures attended the funeral, showcasing the high regard in which Mr McCormack was held. It was a day of mourning for all who knew and admired him.

The grave was adorned with beautiful wreaths, bearing heartfelt messages of sympathy and sorrow from his beloved family, friends, and acquaintances. Mr Patrick McCormack’s untimely departure has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his memory will forever be cherished by those who loved him.
