Rathkeale Union Invites Tenders for Workhouse Supplies and Job Openings

The Board of Guardians of Rathkeale Union convened on Wednesday, July 19, 1905, to discuss proposals for various provisions at the Workhouse. Among the considerations were supplying Iron Bedsteads with spring attachments and matching Mattresses, similar to the current workhouse patterns. Interested parties were required to submit sealed tenders, properly endorsed, by 12 o’clock on the same day. A written contract at the proposer’s expense, along with names of sureties, was mandatory for the selected proposal.

In another tender invitation, the Board sought proposals for a Galvanized Iron Tank with specific dimensions (length: 3ft 6ins, width and depth: 2ft 10.0ins), to be fitted with cock and pipe connections. The tank would be installed in the hospital kitchen. As with the previous proposal, tenders were to be submitted by 12 o’clock on the designated day, with a written contract and sureties mentioned.

Furthermore, the Board considered applicants for the position of Kitchenmaid at the Hospital, offering a salary of 5s per week, in addition to rations. Interested individuals, aged between 25 to 40 years, were required to submit applications accompanied by testimonials by the specified time.

Additionally, notice was given regarding the audit of the Accounts of the Guardians for the half-year ending March 31, 1905. The audit, to be conducted by R. Bourke, Esq, Local Government Auditor, was scheduled to take place on July 24, 1905, at 2.30 o’clock, at the Boardroom of the Workhouse. During the audit, objections to any matters in the accounts would be heard. For a period of seven days before the audit, the accounts would be open for inspection during office hours for anyone interested.

These announcements were crucial for the efficient functioning and management of Rathkeale Union and aimed to facilitate transparency and accountability in the Union’s affairs.
