In a tragic drowning incident at Ballybunion, an Irish pastor displayed extraordinary courage in attempting to save the life of a fellow Irish priest, reflecting the universal bond of humanity. The Reverend J. Connolly of Ballingarry, County Limerick, was enjoying a bath with another priest when they were caught in treacherous and rough waters. Unable to aid each other, Father Connolly’s companion barely managed to save himself.
Witnessing the perilous situation, Reverend Mr Fry, the Protestant Rector, fearlessly swam out to assist Father Connolly. Despite his brave efforts to bring the drowning priest ashore, all attempts to revive him were in vain. The entire community mourns the loss of Father Connolly and deeply regrets that Reverend Mr Fry’s courageous act could not save his life.
This incident reminds us that when faced with danger, humanity transcends differences, as one person’s selflessness and bravery seek to save another’s life. The community will forever remember this gallant deed, where two faiths united in a moment of tragedy.
