To the Editor of the Limerick Echo,
Dear Sir,
Allow me the opportunity to rectify a misstatement published in a letter from the Limerick Carmen’s Society in Friday night’s issue of your paper. The carmen claim that Messrs Spaight & Co. were supplied with a car to draw timber by “a B.C. and prominent P.L.G.” In other words, they seek to imply that I assisted Messrs Spaight in thwarting the carmen’s efforts for better terms. Such an accusation is entirely false and unworthy of the individuals whose names are associated with it. It would have been more prudent and fair for the carmen to approach me first and verify the truth of their claim before making a public statement contradicting the facts. I must emphasize that this charge is completely and unequivocally untrue.
The reality of the matter is that, for the past five years, I have been using my own horses to draw my own timber from Messrs Spaight’s yard. There is nothing untoward about this practice, as every builder in Limerick, who possesses horses, does the same when it suits their convenience. I find it unfortunate and malicious that I have been singled out for baseless allegations.
Yours faithfully,
P. BOURKE, B.C.
