In Parliament, Mr Lundon inquired about the recent purchase by the Estates Commissioners of the Nevin family estate in Mount Shannon, County Limerick. The purchase was made with the intention of providing housing for evicted tenants. Mr Lundon sought information on the size of the estate, the number of acres already allocated to evicted tenants, and whether these tenants had received any official claim or title to their portions. He also asked about the use of the lands for the current season and whether other evicted tenants from counties beyond Limerick had been designated as prospective occupants. Additionally, he urged the Chief Secretary to expedite proceedings for the relief of the evicted tenants.
In response, Mr Long stated that the purchase of the estate was still under consideration, and thus, no allocation of the lands had been made yet. The current owner remains in occupation of the lands, which cover an area of 867 statute acres, approximately 535 acres in Irish plantation measure. Further actions and decisions regarding the allocation of land to evicted tenants are pending while the matter is being evaluated by the authorities.
