
A sorrowful event unfolded near the village of Ardfert, approximately seven miles from Tralee, as Mrs. Elizabeth O’Riordan, an assistant schoolteacher, was discovered lifeless in her lodging. The distressing incident occurred around one o’clock on a Sunday. Mrs. O’Riordan’s face showed significant discoloration, and upon examination, Dr Crosie confirmed that her neck was broken, leaving no doubt that she had tragically passed away.
The circumstances surrounding her demise are shrouded in mystery. On that fateful day, her husband and brother had left for Limerick, leaving Mrs. O’Riordan alone in the lodging. Concerned for her well-being when no response came from her room, the woman with whom she lodged attempted to gain entry but was unsuccessful. Subsequently, the police were called in to assist, and they managed to enter the room, where they found the lifeless body of Mrs. O’Riordan.
The kind woman who provided lodging for her did not report hearing any signs of disturbance or arguments prior to the tragic event. The cause of the injury that led to Mrs. O’Riordan’s untimely death remains unknown.
Mrs. O’Riordan and her husband came from respected families and were well-liked within the community. At only 25 years of age, she was a remarkable and attractive individual. The news of her passing has left the community in shock and grief. Authorities are investigating the incident, seeking answers to the perplexing circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking loss.
