Boxing Tournament Planned at Athenaeum Hall

Boxing enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting boxing tournament scheduled to take place at the Athenaeum Hall, organized by the Royal Irish Constabulary A and B Club. This tournament, which has garnered the support of prominent local figures, is set to be a grand affair with a total of 36 fights lined up, including six contests featuring some of the county’s top fighters.

Of particular local interest is a six-round bout between Limerick’s city champion, Mr P Healy, and Mr Begley, the champion of the Royal Tank Corps (RTC). This highly anticipated match has generated significant excitement in the city. The event’s proceeds will be allocated to local charities after covering expenses, with the expectation that a substantial sum will be raised to assist the less fortunate during the upcoming winter season.

The tournament will feature Mr Ernest Brown, a well-known boxing expert, as the referee. The role of judges will be taken up by K. R. Gelston & Co. and Captain Curley of Adare. The position of ring-master will be handled by Mr Leatham, District Inspector, while Dr U’Sullivan of Limerick will serve as the timekeeper.

The competition segments for both the military and the Royal Irish Constabulary have received significant interest and entries. Both groups have been engaging in rigorous training to uphold their respective honours within the city.

Tickets for the event are being quickly snapped up, and those planning to attend are advised to secure their tickets promptly before they are sold out.
