Passing of Mrs. M. Cuddihy Mourned by Limerick Community

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Cuddihy, the beloved wife of Mr Michael Cuddihy, T.C. The sombre event unfolded at her residence, 4 Bowman Street, on a Friday evening. Mrs. Cuddihy had been battling fragile health for several months, and despite the diligent efforts of medical professionals, her condition gradually declined. On Friday, she peacefully departed this world, having been comforted by the solace of her faith.

The news of her demise has cast a shadow of sorrow over the community. Mr Cuddihy, in addition to his work responsibilities and the care of their young family, now bears the weight of this profound loss. He is met with an outpouring of sympathy from fellow employees at the Harbour Commissioners, where he has dedicated thirty-four years of service, as well as from his associates in the Limerick Corporation and Limerick Board of Guardians. Within these institutions, Mr Cuddihy serves as a representative of the Dock Ward.

On Saturday night, Mrs. Cuddihy’s remains were transferred to St. Michael’s Church. A solemn funeral service followed on Sunday at three o’clock, leading to St. Patrick’s Cemetery. The procession was a testament to the esteem in which she was held, drawing a substantial and diverse assembly, including members of the Corporation and Poor Law Board. The clergy officiating the ceremony were Reverend J.M. Cregan and Reverend J. Lee.

Chief mourners included Mr Michael Cuddihy, T.C., P.L.C. (husband), and their sons Thomas, Denis, and Michael. Maurice Moroney, a nephew, also stood in solemn tribute. Among the community members attending were Mr J. Flynn, City High Sheriff, and various Aldermen and Councillors. The poignant event witnessed the convergence of individuals who held Mrs. Cuddihy in high regard.

As the community grapples with this loss, the legacy of Mrs. Cuddihy will undoubtedly be remembered with warmth and respect. Her impact on the lives she touched will remain a cherished memory, and her absence will be keenly felt.
