
A special gathering of the Limerick Harbour Employees’ Society convened on November 15th, 1905, with Mr M. Cupviny, B., C. LG, in the chair. In attendance were various members including Thomas Naughtoo, P. Fuzmaurice, I. Byrees, M. O’Connell, James Ryan, J. Halpin, John Collopy, P. Lyous, M. Cosgrove, P. Mclnerney, J. Borthwick, M. Grimes, Pete Kearns, J. Maloney, P. McNamara, J. Tracey, P. P. Keane, M. Hickey, A. Guerin, D. McNeico, Sr., W. Cooney, John Leahy, T. Cudding, T. Meehar, Thomas Haaranan, Secretary, and others.
The purpose of this meeting was to endorse the resolution passed by the Delegate Board of the Mechanics’ Institute, which called upon the esteemed Mayor to once again allow himself to be nominated for the year 1906. The chairman expressed confidence that the Mayor would heed the desires of the city’s workers for a second term in office. He commended the Mayor’s ability and zeal in fulfilling his high duties throughout the present year and believed that the Corporation would re-elect him on January 23rd, 1906.
Mr P. Mclnerney expressed his delight in proposing the following resolution: “That we view with pleasure the action of the Delegate Board of the Mechanics’ Institute in urging our esteemed Mayor to accept nomination for a second term of office. We recognize his valuable services to the citizens as both Mayor and Parliamentary representative, and we wholeheartedly endorse their decision.”
The chairman presented the resolution to the assembly, and it was unanimously passed. The Secretary was instructed to send a copy of the resolution to the Mayor and to circulate it among the press.
