Limerick’s ecclesiastical community witnessed a momentous occasion on Sunday as the Very Reverend T.R. Shanahan, V.G., was officially inducted as the Dean of the diocese at St. John’s Cathedral. The ceremony, presided over by the Most Reverend Dr O’Dwyer, Bishop of Limerick, was attended by the parochial clergy and marked a significant chapter in the cathedral’s history.
Amidst the grandeur of St. John’s Cathedral, the new Dean knelt at the High Altar, with Bishop O’Dwyer seated on the Throne. The ritual was conducted meticulously, with the Rev. A. Murphy, Adm, reading the Papal rescript that appointed Dean Shanahan to his position. Making the Act of Faith, Dean Shanahan was received by Bishop O’Dwyer and introduced to the clergy present in the choir.
The induction was not only a ceremonial event but also a spiritual and communal occasion, reinforcing the vital role that the cathedral plays in the religious life of Limerick. The Very Reverend T.R. Shanahan’s appointment as Dean is a significant honour, reflective of his dedication and service to the diocese.
