A special meeting of the Ardfert and Aghadoe Diocesan Synod was convened to elect a Canon to the National Cathedral of St. Patrick’s in Dublin, representing the United Diocese of Limerick, Ardfert, and Aghadoe. The purpose of this election was to fill the vacancy left by the late Very Rev. J. F. Gregg, Dean of Limerick. The Lord Bishop presided over the proceedings, and a number of members and clergymen were in attendance.
The Bishop outlined the rules and procedure for the election, highlighting the importance of the Synod’s decision. He stressed that the elected candidate would carry the responsibility of representing the Diocese in a significant role. Chancellor Hackett was proposed as one of the candidates by a member of the clergy.
Discussion followed, with the hope that the Synod would unanimously agree on the candidate to represent the Diocese. Ultimately, Archdeacon Orpen was nominated and seconded, and his name was sent for voting.
The Bishop concluded the meeting by requesting that voting papers be sent to all Synod members, whether present at the meeting or not, to ensure a comprehensive decision. The proceedings ended with a Benediction, marking a significant step in the Diocese’s leadership structure.
