Limerick Council Seeks Competent Sanitary Sub-Officer

The Limerick City Council has announced its intention to appoint a qualified local individual for the position of Sanitary Sub-Officer within the Limerick Urban Sanitary District. The appointment process is scheduled to take place during the upcoming council meeting on Thursday, January 4th, 1906, commencing at 7:30 in the evening.

The selected candidate will assume the vital responsibilities of the Sanitary Sub-Officer and will be compensated with an annual salary of £60, along with a uniform and additional benefits. The applicant must be between the ages of 20 and 40 years old. The successful candidate will initially serve a probationary period of six months, during which they must demonstrate their competence in the role.

Upon the completion of this probationary period, the chosen candidate is required to provide a certificate from a recognized Sanitary or Public Health Institute, verifying their qualifications and preparedness for the position. The individual appointed to this role will be expected to dedicate their full attention to the duties outlined by the Urban Sanitary Authority and its officers. Compliance with instructions from the Local Government Board for Ireland is also mandatory.

The approval of the appointment is contingent on receiving the endorsement of the Local Government Board. In addition to the qualifications and commitments specified, candidates must pass an examination in the Irish Language and Irish History, adhering to the standards determined by the Council in its meeting on September 7, 1905.

Aspirants are advised that the precise timing of the examination will be communicated to them upon request made to the Town Clerk. All applications must be submitted in the candidate’s own handwriting and accompanied by testimonials. The submission deadline for applications is set for 12 o’clock noon on Tuesday, January 2nd. All applications should be clearly marked on the outside with the words “Sanitary Sub-Officer.”

Furthermore, candidates must be personally present during the time of the election proceedings. This requirement emphasizes the significance of the role and the need for individuals to engage actively in the process.

The announcement, signed by W. M. Nolan, the Town Clerk, highlights the Council’s commitment to selecting a suitable candidate who will uphold the responsibilities associated with the Sanitary Sub-Officer position, contributing to the maintenance of public health and sanitation in the Limerick Urban Sanitary District.
