A recent development has sparked concern in Limerick’s education circles as the city finds itself excluded from a list of towns under consideration for special attention in the realm of technical education. The issue arose from a deputation that visited the Chief Secretary, leaving Limerick without a representative. This has prompted the Limerick Technical Committee to take action.
At a committee meeting held yesterday afternoon and presided over by the Mayor, discussions revolved around the reports of the deputation to the Chief Secretary. Notably absent from the list of towns under consideration for special focus was Limerick, raising concerns about the oversight.
Mr Comerton, the Principal of the Technical Committee, highlighted the omission and underscored that the absence of Limerick from the list might be due to the lack of representation during the deputation. This prompted discussions on the potential need for action to rectify the situation.
In light of these discussions, a resolution was proposed by Rev. Father Murphy, a member of the committee. The resolution expressed concern about the unintentional exclusion of Limerick and emphasized the city’s pressing need for attention in the field of technical education. The resolution further pointed out the financial challenges faced by the city’s educational institutions and highlighted the potential consequences of inadequate funding.
The resolution, which was seconded by Rev. Mr Dowd and unanimously adopted, called for the submission of a copy to the Right Honourable Chief Secretary. The committee expressed its willingness to provide any necessary information to aid in rectifying the situation and securing the support needed to sustain and enhance the city’s technical education initiatives.
This move by the Limerick Technical Committee reflects the city’s commitment to advancing educational opportunities and ensuring that Limerick receives the consideration it deserves in the realm of technical education. The committee’s efforts aim to address the oversight and secure the necessary resources to continue providing quality education to its residents.
