During the enchanting performance of “The Sleeping Beauty” presented by the talented girls of St. Ita’s House at the Theatre Royal last week, Miss Esther Quaid, who portrayed the Fairy Godmother “Kindheart” with remarkable success, stole the show with her rendition of a witty and timely song. Here are the charming lyrics:
(Verse 1)
In this world, things unfold, stories we retell,
Chatter fills the air, you know it’s true,
A few things stand out, I’ll briefly tell,
And share some thoughts with all of you.
Limerick’s fame, lace and bacon prime,
Known through time, both near and far,
But now the Corporation’s set a novel aim,
Steam-rolling wood, a patent star.
(Chorus)
Questions arise, things that puzzle me,
Confusion reigns, what’s real or fake?
Paved streets with mud, like Noah’s flood,
Should I be concerned, for heaven’s sake?
(Verse 2)
At Sarsfield Bridge, a clubhouse stands,
Shannon boys rejoice, and here’s a twist,
Ladies too, their joys expand,
Rowing on the river, love’s sweet tryst.
Summer’s eve, Corbally’s row,
Balcony view, tea in our hand,
Music’s notes, as the breezes blow,
In this tale of beauty, we all understand.
(Chorus)
Questions arise, things that puzzle me,
Confusion reigns, what’s real or fake?
If love comes to call, what then for all?
Answers to find, for my heart’s sake.
(Verse 3)
From distant shores, a football crew,
Their skills and grace, a thrilling sight,
Victories cheered, hearts warmer grew,
But Wales surprised, the day turned bright.
Turns of fate, sportsmanship’s rule,
Zealand’s giant, felled by Wales,
Laughter echoed, victory cool,
“Kamati Kiora” amid those tales.
(Chorus)
Questions arise, things that puzzle me,
Confusion reigns, what’s real or fake?
Did they sing with glee, beneath the victory tree?
In that final match, what’s the stake?
(Verse 4)
Limerick’s daughters, fair and true,
Best of wives, their hearts so pure,
Cherished partners, love anew,
Their devotion strong, forever sure.
Young men listen, seize your chance,
At St. Ita’s, find your match,
Happiness awaits, in love’s advance,
With these gentle hearts, a perfect catch.
(Chorus)
Questions arise, things that puzzle me,
Confusion reigns, what’s real or fake?
With Father’s consent, vows to be spent,
Marriage bells will ring, for love’s sake.
(Verse 5)
Electric trams, soon to grace our streets,
Thrilling rides, a city transformed,
Jarveys wonder, as new paths meet,
Will this venture prosper, they’re informed.
Quiet lanes stirred, a change so grand,
Killaloe drives, their thoughts race anew,
Penny for a mile, through the land,
Limerick’s charm, with trams, will grew.
(Chorus)
Questions arise, things that puzzle me,
Confusion reigns, what’s real or fake?
Motor cars or horse-drawn cars,
Transport’s future, which path to take?
