Labour Council: The Living-In System

Copy of Resolution Passed by Limerick Branch on the 9th March, 1906:

“We, the members of the Limerick Branch of the Irish Drapers’ Assistants’ Benefit and Protective Association, recognizing the grave injustice which is being done to us by our loss of the Franchise and rights of Citizenship, hereby call on our Parliamentary Representatives to take immediate steps in order to have a Clause inserted in the proposed Workingmen’s Bill prohibiting employers from making any deduction from the wages of their employees, in lieu of board and lodgings, for we believe that such is contrary to the spirit of the Truck Act, and a grave interference with the rights and liberties of the subject.”
