Limerick has found a lucrative source of income in its electric lighting department. During a recent meeting of the Limerick Corporation, the Mayor highlighted the impressive progress made by the Electric Lighting Department. He shared that in the first quarter of the previous year, the department had earned £695 solely from power purposes. However, in the corresponding quarter of the current year, this amount had surged to £1,122. The Mayor expressed optimism that this trend of improvement would continue.
Furthermore, there were plans to enhance the department’s capabilities by acquiring another powerful engine. It was estimated that with this addition, the department’s income could be boosted by £6,000 annually. To facilitate this expansion, the Corporation decided to seek a further loan of £35,000. This investment was intended to finance the purchase of the additional engine and accommodate the growing demand for electric lighting services.
This proactive approach by Limerick demonstrates a strong commitment to improving its infrastructure and utilizing modern technology for financial gain. The city’s success in the electric lighting sector serves as an inspiring example of prudent financial planning and resource management.
