Notice: Tender Invitation for Coal Supply to Limerick District Lunatic Asylum

The Committee of Management for the Limerick District Lunatic Asylum has announced a call for tenders from coal merchants. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, 10th July 1907, where considerations will be made for the supply of 300 tons of the best steam coals to the institution.

Interested parties are instructed that the coal must be “through and through,” originating from specified collieries such as Lewesmerthyr, Globe, Merthyr, Ocean, Nixon’s Navigation, International, Ebbw Vale, Great Western Steam, St Helen’s, and Cumberland. Additionally, the coal must be freshly wrought at the time of shipment.

Delivery conditions stipulate that the coal must be transported directly from the ship to the Asylum, with the contractor required to furnish a “colliery certificate” and “bill of lading” before delivery. Continuous delivery is expected, not less than 100 tons daily between 7 am and 6 pm. Failure to adhere to this schedule will incur a penalty of £10 per day.

Furthermore, the coal must be supplied within fourteen days of tender acceptance and weighed on the Harbour Commissioners’ lever before delivery. Contractors must disclose the names of the collieries intending to supply. Tender forms, available at the Storekeepers’ Office until 5 pm on Tuesday, 9th July, will be accepted with proper endorsement. No forms will be issued on the board day.

Tenders should be submitted no later than 10:30 am on Wednesday, 10th July 1907. Successful contractors will be required to execute a bond at their expense and must attend the Clerk’s Office with their sureties within four days of the contract declaration. It’s important to note that the committee retains the discretion to accept or reject any tender. The specified colliery certificate must indicate a 50% large coal percentage.
