Limerick, Saturday. In a meeting presided over by the Mayor and attended by notable figures such as Alderman Dillon Bourke, R. Frost, and J. J. Roche, the City Distress Committee reported on the fruitful accomplishments of the season. The presence of key officials, including the City Surveyor, A. Killeen, and J. J. Peacocke, added weight to the discussions.
The meeting began with the City Surveyor presenting a comprehensive report, revealing that all funds allocated for the working of the Act had been utilised judiciously. The report further conveyed that the Committee’s functions for the year had concluded, marking the end of a period of sustained efforts to address distress in the city.
Acknowledging the diligent use of resources, the Mayor expressed gratitude to the committee members for their unwavering interest and dedication to the cause throughout the season. Mr Roche, seconded by others, moved a unanimous vote of thanks to the Mayor for his active role in promoting the affairs of the Committee during the past year. The Mayor, humbly accepting the appreciation, proceeded to propose a resolution to sustain the positive momentum.
The resolution, unanimously adopted, conveyed the Committee’s intention to seek a grant under the Unemployed Workmen Act from the Local Government Board for Ireland. The funds would be directed towards the continuation of vital projects, specifically the concreting of city lanes. The Mayor highlighted the significance of these projects in enhancing the health and well-being of citizens, particularly during times of economic challenges.
Alderman Joyce, MP.., and Mr J. G. Mac Sweeney, Local Government Board Inspector, were identified as recipients of the resolution, emphasizing the Committee’s commitment to transparent communication and collabouration.
