Limerick Resident Arrested After Firing Shots in Shocking Incident

In a startling turn of events, Co. Limerick has once again found itself at the centre of attention as a reservist, identified as James Coleman, was apprehended by the police following a disturbing incident in Athlacca. The town, situated between Kilmallock and Croom, witnessed a series of indiscriminate gunshots fired by Coleman, leaving at least one individual severely wounded.

The incident unfolded near the residence of Mr R. W. Jervis, J.P., Tullavin, Croom, where Coleman is employed. Eyewitnesses reported that the ex-army man fired several shots from a six-chamber revolver, targeting various individuals in the vicinity. One farmer, identified as Keannelly from Banogue, narrowly escaped death but suffered a serious gunshot wound to the arm.

Coleman’s actions took a more sinister turn as he reportedly made multiple unsuccessful attempts to harm his own brother-in-law and the brother-in-law’s wife. The assailant, in a fit of rage, allegedly broke the windows of their house before firing shots that, fortunately, missed their intended targets.

In a fortunate twist, a resident of the district managed to evade harm by quickly seeking refuge and alerting the police. The concerned individual promptly travelled to Bruree, a distance of three miles, to bring law enforcement to the scene. Responding swiftly, the police from Bruree apprehended Coleman and transported him to Bruree barracks for further investigation.

The injured parties, including the farmer Keannelly, were promptly attended to and transported to their homes following the incident. The severity of their injuries remains undisclosed at this time, pending medical assessments.

The motive behind Coleman’s reckless actions is yet to be determined, and authorities are actively investigating the incident to ascertain any underlying factors that may have led to such a violent episode. As the community grapples with the shock of the event, local residents are expressing concerns about the safety and well-being of their community members.
