At a convened meeting of the Limerick Board of Guardians yesterday, chaired by Mr R. Frost, S.C., notable strides were made towards addressing the pressing need for increased food production. Mr B., in a correspondence with Lord Monteagle, highlighted a comprehensive scheme aimed at augmenting agricultural output. Central to this scheme is the requisitioning of land, a measure that underscores the gravity of the current food scarcity.
The proposed strategy entails convening conferences in each parish, bringing together stakeholders pivotal to agricultural productivity: farmers, landlords, and labourers. Through these gatherings, the aim is to delineate the extent of land required and to delineate the responsibilities incumbent upon all land occupiers in bolstering food supplies.
Mr Bourke presented a motion advocating collabourative action to advance this initiative, a sentiment echoed by the assembly. Upon deliberation, a unanimous resolution was passed to wholeheartedly support and engage with the outlined plan.
This concerted effort by the Limerick Guardians reflects a recognition of the urgent need to address food shortages, a matter of paramount importance amid prevailing circumstances. As communities grapple with the spectre of scarcity, initiatives such as these offer a tangible pathway towards ameliorating the situation.
