“Fierce Election Campaign Sees De Valera Rallying Support in Limerick and Ennis”

The political landscape is heating up as the election campaign for East Clare intensifies. Eamon De Valera, a prominent Sinn Féin candidate, has been actively rallying support across the region, making significant stops in Bruree, his mother’s native place in County Limerick, and travelling to Ennis to engage with voters.

On Friday evening, De Valera and his supporters, including notable figure Mr McGrath, MP.., received a tremendous reception at Limerick Junction. The enthusiasm continued as they travelled through various towns, receiving warm welcomes in Charleville, Sixmilebridge, and Ballycar.

Upon arriving in Ennis, De Valera was greeted by an immense crowd, proudly displaying Sinn Féin flags and accompanied by the light of tar barrels. The crowd escorted him through the town, demonstrating the fervent local support for his candidacy.

In his address to the assembled throng, De Valera declared his allegiance to the Sinn Féin cause over the Union Jack, emphasizing his commitment to Irish self-determination. He recounted his defiance towards the prison authorities in England, asserting that the only law he recognized was that of the Irish people. He vehemently denied being a “murderer,” a label he claimed was unjustly imposed by British authorities. De Valera implored the people of East Clare to affirm that those who had sacrificed their lives for Ireland were not “murderers.”

De Valera highlighted the valour of the Irish rebels during the Easter Rising, noting that 1,200 of them had bravely stood against 40,000 military forces. He stressed that their surrender was not due to military defeat but rather a strategic decision.

Mr M. Crowe of Doora reinforced De Valera’s sentiments, calling on the crowd to give a hearty welcome to those returning from English prisons, whom he referred to as “murderers” in a defiant tone against British accusations. Mr Dan McCarthy added that their campaign was committed to a “clean fight,” signalling their determination to uphold integrity while fiercely contesting the election.

The fervour surrounding De Valera’s campaign reflects the broader sentiment of a populace yearning for Irish independence and rejecting British rule. His speeches resonate with the community’s desire for justice and recognition of the sacrifices made during the struggle for freedom.

As the election campaign progresses, both candidates are intensifying their efforts to secure votes, but De Valera’s dynamic presence and unwavering stance on Irish self-governance are rallying substantial support. The outcome of this election will undoubtedly be a significant indicator of the political direction in East Clare and potentially the broader Irish nationalist movement.
