G. A. A. Hurling and Football: League Convention, Davis Junior Team, and Tournament Matches

The annual convention of the Hurling League took place on Thursday with Mr D. O’Callaghan presiding. During the meeting, Mr M. F. Crowe, the Honorary Secretary, presented a report on the league’s activities over the past year, which was adopted. The elections resulted in Mr D. O’Callaghan being elected as Chairman, Mr J. Buggy as Vice-Chairman, Mr P. Cullen as Honorary Treasurer, and Mr J. Kennedy as Honorary Secretary. A decision was made to honour Mr Crowe for his services to the league with a presentation.

In other G.A.A. news, Cuchulain H.C. announced their team selection for the match against Lorean O’Toole. The team will be chosen from players such as O’Brien, Wardis, Bradley, Woods, and others. Meanwhile, MacHale F.C. called for all members to attend a practice session tomorrow and a subsequent meeting to discuss matters related to the Sunday League. M. Davitt H.C. also reminded their members to attend practice on the usual ground, followed by a committee meeting to select a representative for the league.

Arrangements for the challenge matches between the junior and senior hurling champions of Limerick and the winners of the Junior and Minor Leagues in Dublin were finalized. The visiting team will arrive in Dublin around noon and be transported to the Thatch grounds. The first match (minor) is scheduled to start promptly at 1 o’clock. Spectators are expected to gather in large numbers as the matches promise to be exciting. Members and officers of the G.A.A. are urged to arrive early to provide their support.

The Davis Junior Team, set to compete against Limerick, was announced. Players like M’Inerney (captain), Larkin O’Gorman, Bolster, Kelleher, and others were named in the lineup. They are requested to bring their team colours to the venue. Southern Rovers H.C. called for a special practice session on their own ground, while the members of St. Martin’s H.C. were asked to attend practice promptly and a committee meeting afterwards.

In football news, the Saturday Football League Committee held a meeting where additional entries were received from various clubs. The committee emphasized the importance of the Saturday competitions and granted an extension for clubs to enter. The committee also urged the presence of members and officers for assistance during the matches.

Several other clubs, including Keating A.C., O’Brien H.C., Eire Og F.C., Archbishop Byrne H.C., Geere H.C., and others, provided updates on their practice schedules, meetings, and match preparations.

Finally, the Donabate Tournament continued with matches scheduled for tomorrow, including a senior match between John Dillons (Dundalk) and Kickhams (Dublin) and a junior match between Parnells and Sarsfields.
