Limerick, May 2, 1905 – An extraordinary and tense eviction scene unfolded in Limerick yesterday, as the sheriff, acting in accordance with a ruling from the Court of Chancery, attempted to take possession of a public-house in the town.
Accompanied by a contingent of police officers, the sheriff approached the premises, only to be met with a barrage of stones, bottles, and various other objects hurled by a group of people gathered inside. The situation escalated, and the sheriff was faced with a defiant challenge to gain entry.
Undeterred, the resourceful sheriff procured a hatchet and, with determined blows, hacked down the door, finally gaining access to the premises. Once inside, no further resistance was offered.
The eviction proceedings drew the attention of a large crowd of onlookers, who observed the events unfold with rapt attention. During the commotion, one of the bailiffs suffered a minor injury.
The incident has caused considerable interest and concern in the community, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure a peaceful resolution. Further updates on the matter are awaited as investigations continue.
