Solemn Reception of Religious at Birr Convent

At the Convent of Mercy in Birr, a heartfelt and solemn reception took place on Saturday, as Miss Josephine O’Connor, the second daughter of Mr Joseph O’Connor from Mulgrave Street, was formally received into the Community. She had made the decision to enter the religious life two years ago, and this event marked an important milestone in her journey.

The auspicious occasion was graced by the presence of the Lord Bishop of Killaloe, Dr Fogerty, who presided over the reception. Alongside him were other esteemed clergy members, including Reverend Father Rea from St. Mary’s in Limerick, Reverend Father Barrett from Birr, and Reverend Father Donovan, also from Birr.

The joyous event was further enriched by the attendance of close friends and family. Among those present were Mr and Mrs. Joseph O’Connor and their family from Limerick, Mr John O’Connor, Josephine’s brother-in-law, also from Limerick, Miss O’Grady from Limerick, and the Misses O’Malley, who were there to support and celebrate the decision of their dear friend.

Following the reception, a warm and welcoming gesture was extended to the friends and family of the newly received nun. The Reverend Mother of the Convent generously hosted a hospitable reception, where everyone could come together to share their joy and blessings on this special day.

The Convent of Mercy, Birr, stands as a beacon of spiritual guidance and support, and with the addition of Miss Josephine O’Connor to their community, they have received a devoted and dedicated individual eager to devote her life to serving others in the name of faith and compassion.

The occasion was marked with reverence and celebration, as the Birr community, along with friends and family, united to welcome and bless the newest addition to the Convent of Mercy. The prayers and well-wishes of all present were extended to Miss Josephine O’Connor as she embarks on her religious journey within the loving embrace of the Convent’s community.
