
Newcastle West, The jubilant spirit of celebration was evident throughout Newcastle West as the town was adorned with extensive and vibrant decorations, warmly welcoming the visitors and honouring the occasion of the Jubilee. From the moment one entered the town, a sense of festivity and joy enveloped the atmosphere.
At the station entrance, a heartfelt motto extended a cordial welcome to all visitors, setting the tone for the jubilant festivities. Houses lining the streets opposite the station were bedecked with fluttering flags and evergreens, adding a colorful touch to the surroundings.
A prominent streamer stretched across the road, expressing congratulations to the Redemptorist Fathers on the occasion of the Jubilee. The people of Newcastle West took immense pride in their esteemed guests and made sure their appreciation was evident for all to see.
The entire Bishop Street was a vision of patriotic pride, with flags adorning house windows and the Papal Arms displayed in abundance. Mottoes with heartfelt sentiments like “Jesus, Mary, and Joseph,” “God Bless Our Bishop,” “God Bless the Pope,” “Welcome to Newcastle West,” and “Newcastle West Welcomes Limerick” adorned the street, expressing the warmth of their hospitality.
The grand spectacle continued as one moved into the Square, where an enormous fifty-yard streamer proudly displayed the words “Newcastle West Holy Family Welcomes Limerick Holy Family” in striking white letters against a crimson backdrop. The visual spectacle left no doubt about the town’s enthusiasm for the Jubilee celebration and its guests.
Maiden Street, both upper and lower, resembled a charming grove, each house adorned with delightful arborial favours, sacred pictures, altars, and images. The passion and dedication of the townspeople were evident, with many places even setting up pretty decorated altars along the flagways, adding a picturesque aspect to the normally bustling thoroughfare.
Bridge Street was equally vibrant, boasting an array of banners and bannerettes. Among the striking displays was a motto that read “St. Alphonsus in the Joys of Heaven, Pray for Us,” expressing the community’s deep reverence and devotion.
Even the local workhouse was not exempt from the spirit of celebration, displaying the Papal Arms with pride.
The exuberant decorations were a true reflection of the spirit and unity of the townspeople. The outpouring of creativity and dedication from the residents made it a challenge to provide a detailed list of the decorations, as every corner of the town seemed to be adorned with joyous expressions of love, faith, and celebration.
As the Jubilee celebration continued, Newcastle West was transformed into a visual feast, a testament to the warmth and affection of its residents and their wholehearted embrace of the special occasion.
