County Borough Council of Limerick Public Free Library – Librarian’s Report for January 1906

In the month of January 1906, the County Borough Council of Limerick’s Public Free Library saw significant activity. The following statistics were reported:

Reference Library:

  • Number of visitors: 11,867
  • Number of books turned over: 727

Lending Library:

  • Number of borrowers enrolled: 28
  • Number of books turned over: 2,191
  • Fines for retention of books: £2 12s 4d (240 persons fined)
  • Fines for damage to books: 4s 2d (2 persons fined)
  • Catalogues sold: 13 at 6d each, totaling 6s 3d
  • Borrowers’ tickets sold: 30 at 1d each, totaling 2s 6d

Additionally, the library generated revenue from the sales of newspapers, periodicals, and other items, totaling £1 17s 2d. The amount of £5 2s 6d was handed over to the Honorary Secretary.

The report was submitted and presented at the meeting of the Committee on the 22nd day of February 1906, chaired by James Frost.
