RATEPAYERS EXPRESS DISAPPROVAL THROUGH PROTEST

A gathering of concerned ratepayers from the Limerick Union took place on Saturday, presided over by Mr C. J. Bentley. At this meeting, a significant resolution was put forth and subsequently passed, reflecting the shared sentiment of the assembled attendees.

The resolution articulated the ratepayers’ strong objection to the recent decision made by certain guardians of the Limerick Union. Specifically, the guardians’ choice to endorse a salary increase for doctors and other officials within the Union prompted discontent among the ratepayers. The resolution vocalized the ratepayers’ collective dissatisfaction with this decision.

In response to this issue, the resolution called upon the guardians of various districts to convene on the upcoming Wednesday and voice their opposition to the passed salary increase. The ratepayers themselves were urged to congregate at the workhouse premises to express their concerns over the noticeable surge in rates.

Furthermore, the resolution encouraged ratepayers to take note of those guardians who supported the salary increase. It proposed that these ratepayers should keep a record of such decisions with a view to either displace these guardians from their positions in the forthcoming election or prompt them to immediately resign from their roles.

The meeting and its resolution signify a demonstration of the ratepayers’ engagement with local governance and their intention to hold representatives accountable for decisions affecting their financial well-being and interests.
